Breakfast Buzz: Should Saskatoon get a cat café?

SASKATOON – A popular trend in Japan has made it’s way to Canada. Cat cafés, where you can enjoy a coffee and meet adoptable cats, have opened in Montreal, Toronto and, as of next Monday, Vancouver.

There are some health and safety concerns related to these types of cafés, mostly for the well being of the animals. Critics say that because cats are not social animals, having an ever-changing roster of adoptable cats roam free in a crowded room could cause stress for the animals. That’s why cat cafés often come with strict rules for customers: no waking a sleeping kitty and no picking them up.
