CALGARY – It’s the most precious gift you can give, and it costs absolutely nothing.
Canadian Blood Services launched its ‘Wrap It Up Red’ campaign this morning, encouraging Calgarians to give the gift of life.
Three-year-old Gracie Crothers was there for the launch with her parents, who said they wish most for their daughter’s health this holiday season.
“If I never received another Christmas gift and someone just gave me a card and said we donated blood in honour of children with leukemia, or in honour of Gracie, that would be the most precious gift for me,” Franklin Crothers said.
Crothers was diagnosed with leukemia last July. Within an hour of that diagnosis, she received her first blood transfusion.

Crothers relies on blood products as part of her ongoing treatment. Her father said blood donations have made the difference between life and death for Gracie.
This December, Canadian Blood Services hopes to fill 125,000 donation appointments.
