WATCH: Irish TV reporter becomes Internet sensation for live storm report

Storm Desmond has been battering the UK and Ireland with gale force winds and rains that have flooded some areas.

RTE News’ senior reporter Teresa Mannion was tasked with reporting on unsafe road conditions in Galway on Saturday evening as the storm pounded down all around her.

“Don’t make unnecessary journeys! Don’t take risks on treacherous roads!” she said.

She went on to warn people not to swim in the rough waters.

“Galway City Council say their actions are idiotic.”

Her dramatic live broadcast has become an Internet sensation.

A doctored version of Mannion getting clipped in the head with a rogue stop sign has even fooled some people into believing the reporter was actually hit.

“I was in a bubble of gale-force winds and heavy rain,” she said. “Visually, I think the message could not have been clearer in terms of telling people how treacherous it was to be out in the storm.”

Mannion said she’s pleased her clip has gone viral and that her safety message has been heard by hundreds of thousands of people.
