TORONTO – A campaign making waves throughout social media is trying find a place for “the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be” – Bret “The Hitman” Hart – on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
Calgary wrestler Bret Hart wrestled from 1978 to 2000 with WWE (formerly WWF) wrestling.
Hart, along with several other wrestlers who were either part of or close to the Hart family, formed what was commonly referred to as “The Hart Foundation.”
Now, Arda Ocal, a host on sports network The Score, has started a petition to get Bret Hart a place on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
Currently number two in voting behind Phil Hartman, the petition to add Bret Hart to the Walk of Fame is quickly gaining momentum and some members of the Walk are getting behind the petition – including William Shatner.
Currently in Hawaii, the former professional wrestler says he is touched by the support Canadians have shown him and professional wrestling.
“For the people of Canada to have spoken up for me like this, it’s such a huge sign of respect and appreciation, that I can’t tell you how much it means to me,” Hart said. “The fact that no wrestler has ever been given that honour, I personally feel it’s a little overdue.”
The March of Dimes, a charity that Hart has long served as spokesperson, has also thrown its support behind Hart to fill the next star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Hart, suffered a stroke in 2002, and since then has been an outspoken supporter of the March of Dimes.
“March of Dimes is a great cause, and the fact they’ve asked me over the years to be a spokesperson for them is a big honour,” Hart said.
