MONCTON – A Moncton toddler’s political smarts is grabbing the attention of those on Parliament Hill.

Two-year-old Sophia Popalyar can name about half of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet. And some of those cabinet ministers are sharing the video of her showing off her talents.

Her father credits her knowledge to her interest in the federal election.

“I was trying to scramble and learn all the names of the cabinet ministers, and as I was doing that she took an interest in it and I noticed she was able to recall them,” said Fawad Popalyar.

And that’s when things really became interesting. Sophia’s video gained over 30,000 views and lots of media attention.

“A couple of cabinet ministers have liked or retweeted her videos and we got attention from the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister as well,” he said.

What’s even more incredible – English is Sophia’s second-language. She was raised speaking Dari, her father’s native language in Afghanistan.

“I am very amazed and not only just at this but at the fact that she is able to sing in languages she doesn’t understand,” he said.

Now, Sophia’s hoping her new-found fame will take her to Parliament Hill.

“I wish to meet Justin Trudeau,” she said.
