HALIFAX – Soul’s Harbour is getting another big boost, as they’ve just won another $100,000 from the Aviva Community Fund.

This is the second year in a row the mission has won the funding, and they’re the first charity win the money twice.

“I think the best thing about this is that it’s Christmas time,” said Michelle Porter, founding director at the mission.

“Best gift we could ever receive because really, we’re not the winners, the hundred plus people that we serve every day are the true winners of this $100,000 for Soul’s Harbour.”

The Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission serves 25,000 meals a year to hungry and homeless people in Halifax.

The money the mission won last year went toward upgrading their kitchen. Porter says this wave of funding will go toward upgrades to the dining area.

Aviva distributes $1-million a year to different organizations, which win the money based on votes.
