BELOEIL – Patrick Lévesque-Paquette, 24, was arraigned in St. Hyacinthe court Wednesday after police found a handcuffed woman in the backseat of his car.
Police in the south shore city of Beloeil foiled the alleged kidnapping while out on a routine traffic stop.
Officers tried to pull over a vehicle that apparently had out-of-date licence plates.
The driver sped away, leading police on a chase that ended when the suspect lost control of his car and hit a tree.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, police found a 25-year-old woman who had been tied up in the backseat.
She had reportedly been missing from an east-end Montreal metro station since Monday evening.
According to reports, the young woman had been kidnapped and repeatedly sexually assaulted in a Mont Ste. Hilaire motel.
She was taken to hospital.
Lévesque faces 17 charges including kidnapping, weapons possession and sexual assault.
