PICKERING, Ont. – A 24-year-old woman from Markham, Ont., is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was hit by metal debris that flew through the windshield of her vehicle on Highway 401 Tuesday evening.
Ontario Provincial Police say at least three vehicles had struck the debris in the Pickering area east of Toronto at about 8:30 p.m., resulting in deflated tires and minor damage.
The OPP says a short time later, the debris entered the windshield of another vehicle, seriously injuring the unidentified driver.
The piece of debris is about two meters long and police say it appears to be a part from a tow truck.
The OPP is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Whitby detachment.
