Sorry, ‘Dexter’ fans, Showtime is not bringing the show back

Michael C. Hall as Dexter. Showtime

Rumours started swirling over the weekend that Showtime was planning on resurrecting its serial-killer hit show, Dexter, for further episodes.

Today, Showtime confirmed that they have no plans to bring the show back, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The rumours stemmed from a Thanksgiving-themed tweet posted by the network.

Unfortunately, many Dexter fans took this as a sign that Showtime was considering rebooting the series.

While there are no current plans to bring back the series, after the widely derided finale — considered one of the biggest flops ever by both fans and critics — Showtime displayed a modicum of interest in re-deploying Dexter.

“We continue to talk about it,” Showtime executive and producer David Nevins said in January 2014. “If we were to do it, we have to have a very good reason to do it. It has to feel like it’s a new show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a continuation. If we were to do it, I would only do it with Michael.”

So, for now, TV will continue to be a Dexter-less zone, and any fans seeking closure will have to wait.
