UDPATE: Penticton fire officials have now concluded that a car fire is responsible for destroying a detached garage and its workshop contents.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding says the blaze started underneath the hood of a Ford sedan that was inside the garage.
Spalding says due to the extensive damage, officials can’t determine exactly how or why the fire started there, but the conclusion was drawn because the car’s hood sustained the most significant damage.
PENTICTON – An overnight fire has destroyed a detached garage and its workshop contents in Penticton.
Crews were called to a Middle Bench Road property just before 1:00 a.m. Friday to find the structure roiling with flames.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding says the extensive damage will hinder efforts to determine the origin and cause of the fire but it’s not considered suspicious.
Spalding estimates the losses are between $100,000 and $150,000.
