Charges laid after man struck by vehicle on Saskatchewan reserve dies

Saskatchewan RCMP say a man died after he was struck by a vehicle and a suspect has been charged in connection to the hit and run collision. Officers were called to the crash on the Sweetgrass First Nation around 8:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

Authorities found a man lying near a grid road and was suffering from significant injuries.

The victim was airlifted by STARS air ambulance to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon where he passed away on Thursday evening. His name and age have not been released at this time.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning. The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance in North Battleford provincial court on Dec. 21.

Investigators believe the victim was walking along the road when he was struck by a vehicle being driven by the accused. Police have also seized a vehicle they believe was operated by the accused.

Battlefords RCMP are still investigating the hit and run collision.
