MP Ray Boughen was in Regina Friday making good
on a few campaign promises.
He announced support for a local
housing initiative for people with serious mental health conditions.
It’s part of a Federal and
Provincial Government partnership of $132 million to the Ranch Ehrlo Society.
The three storey project at 2025 Osler Street
holds 40 affordable housing units that are specifically designed for tenants
with mental and cognitive disabilities.

Support staff for the residents will
be provided by the Phoenix Residential Society.
Vice President of Ranch Ehrlo
Residential Services, Malcolm Neill, says this project has been in the works
since 2007, and the need for housing like this has only grown.
“These are great needs that are
going to take a range of people from all levels of government to develop
housing resources for individuals in our community,” said Neill.
The goal for the tenants will be to
live as independently as possible.
“The great thing about this facility
and the supports these individuals will receive through Phoenix is hopefully they’ll be able to live
and meet their needs within the community, without needing to return to the
hospital,” he said.
The 40 apartment units are already
full.
