Dump truck driver charged after fatal hit-and-run in Brampton

TORONTO – Peel Regional Police have arrested a 61-year-old man for allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian with his dump truck in Brampton early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 6:25 a.m. ET. when a 21-year-old male was crossing the street in the area of Steeles Avenue and Kennedy Road.

It is alleged the driver of the dump truck fatally struck the victim and fled the scene.

Police said the accused, identified as Sultan Singh Bhamber, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Markham.

He has since been charged with fail to remain at scene of accident cause death.

Bhamber is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21.
