Man who posted ‘Phuc Dat Bich’ passport photo says it was hoax

His name started trending around the world because he said he didn’t appreciate that no one believed Phuc Dat Bich was his real name.

In a recent Facebook post, the prankster admitted that his fake name all started as a joke between friends.

The story was reported by media around the world last week, including Global News. But it was Australian multicultural broadcasting company SBS that first found the story suspicious because Bich is not a Vietnamese last name.

It said that the user, who is now calling himself “Joe Carr” (or, presumably, “joker”), posted his public admission after an SBS employee contacted him claiming they knew his passport photo was fake.

He maintained his stance that discrimination against those with culturally specific names is simply ignorant.

“Hate and discrimination will remain if we continue to be so closed minded. To those who do have culturally specific and spectacular names, ignore the ignorance in those who may try to put you down.”

Global News has reached out to the Facebook user for comments, and to determine his real name, but has not yet received a response.
