TORONTO — Police are warning North York residents to take extra care securing their homes after a rash of break-ins in the area.
Toronto police said the break-and-enters occurred in the area bordered by Steeles Avenue to the north, Highway 404 to the east, Sheppard Avenue East to the south, and Bayview Avenue to the west.
No injuries have been reported in the break-ins but police said several homeowners have been woken up to the sound of intrusions.
Police said in some of the entries, screens were cut, and unlocked windows were opened.
Homeowners are asked to be vigilant of suspicious people, vehicles, or activity in their neighborhood and to call police if concerned.
Homeowners should also secure their homes by ensuring fence gates are closed, windows locked, security systems armed and cameras activated. Police said exterior lighting may also be an effective tool.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers.
