WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Islamic Association opened its doors to the community on Sunday in an effort to get to know residents and let them ask questions about who they are and what they represent. It was an opportunity for attendees to ask any questions they had about Islam – one on one.

The hope was to break down barriers and ban stereotypes in an open and safe environment. The president of the association said they provide an open house every few months to connect to the community.
“The Muslim community here welcomes everyone,” Idris Elbakri said. “Hopefully they take us up on this offer, and even after this if anyone wants tours, we can try to accommodate that,” he said.
Families enjoyed traditional cultural displays and snacks as a part of the event.
