Lethbridge College open house draws hundreds

LETHBRIDGE – Prospective students were welcomed to Lethbridge College Thursday for the annual fall open house. It was a chance for prospective students to meet with counsellors and career practitioners to learn more about a school where they could be spending the next few years.

Booths and interactive displays were set up in the Val Matteotti gymnasium with information on the college’s vocational training and university transfer programs in more than 50 fields.

“They can see exactly the types of things they want to do and speak with instructors first-hand,” said recruitment assistant Erin Hall. “Then there’s familiar faces already. That’s such a big thing when you’re coming to already have that personal connection and to have met someone in the program.”

Student ambassadors led two scheduled tours over the lunch hour to showcase the campus and highlight the support services and programs the college offers.

“It shows how interactive our programs are,” said Hall. “The instructors that are hired into the college have actually worked in those industries   they know first-hand what they are doing and what is required to get a job out there. Hall added the smaller class sizes are another plus because “you really get a good relationship with your classmates and your instructors.”

On-the-spot admission was handed out to selected students for fall 2016 and one lucky student was the winner of a draw for a $1,500 tuition credit.
