Saskatchewan’s Worst Roads attract votes

On March 27, the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) of Saskatchewan launched its first Worst Roads campaign to put a spotlight on troublesome and even dangerous road conditions in the province.

To date, Saskatchewan drivers have cast close to 1,600 votes for what they believe are the worst roads they’ve travelled on recently in the province. So far, the top five leading roads are:

1. Highway 22 near Earl Grey

“Thousands of dollars of car repairs including a radiator, 4 new tires, new seal for pil pan, need a new windshield and many more undercarriage repairs. This is by far the worst road I’ve ever travelled,” said Marlene Latreille via Facebook.

2. Highway 22 near Southey

“This road is the roughest road I have ever travelled on. It needs to be put back to pavement,” said Cheryl Reddaway via Facebook.

3. Highway 58 near Lafleche

“This has got to be the worst there is out there. Those chunks of pavement put holes in tires and cracks in windshields. Someone could get seriously hurt,” said Joanne March via Facebook.

4. Highway 18 near Beaubier

“Please vote for highway 18. It is absolutely terrible!” said Jenna Marcotte via Facebook.

5. Highway 51 near Major

“Yes this is a dangerous road going from Saskatoon to Red Deer,” said Jay Lutz via Facebook.

A road qualifies as a “worst” if it is in general disrepair with potholes, cracks etc., has poor signage or congestion or is too narrow for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to share safely.

Drivers can go to www.caask.ca/worstroads to tell CAA Saskatchewan what roads are the worst in the province.

The campaign runs until April 23rd.
