MONTREAL – Quebec has created a new reserved lane on a South Shore highway.

Starting Monday, Nov. 23, the A-112 West in Longueuil and Saint-Lambert will have a reserved lane set aside for buses, taxis, electric cars and carpooling vehicles.

“There are more than 15,000 vehicles using the A-112 everyday,” explained Transport Minister Robert Poëti.

“This move is about giving motorists a reason to carpool, which would help traffic.”

The lane will be reserved from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. every weekday.

“Before we created this reserved lane, about 15 per cent of vehicles already had two or more people inside,” said Poëti, adding that the lane will be in effect for one year before a follow-up is done with residents and businesses.
