UPDATE: The water is expected to be back for all residents sometime on Wednesday.
Once it is back, there is a boil water advisory that will be in place until further notice.
PIERREFONDS-ROXBORO – It’s gone from bad to worse in Pierrefonds where some residents on Pierrefonds Boulevard have been without water for days.
A pipe burst over the weekend between Paiement and Sainte-Anne streets and work crews apparently didn’t have the right equipment to fix it.
“Since Friday, our teams have been working around the clock to fix this issue,” said Pierrefonds Mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis.
“It’s an uncommon situation where we have a pretty minor break take a number of days before it’s repaired.”
According to the borough, “in order to repair the leakage, the borough has to change the defective valve and the steel saddle.”
Crews on the ground required additional assistance from the City of Montreal and a specialized company to install the pieces.
About 200 homes and businesses are affected by the water main break.
On Monday night, Beis said the borough is “still having issues with the repair” and that “teams are continuing their work.”
He told Global News that water and showers will be available until 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Sportsplex.
Proof of residency is required.
Over the past 10 years, the Pierrefonds borough has invested millions of dollars on its aqueducts.
The infrastructure is ageing and the mayor acknowledged that this may have played a role in the water main break.
“I can tell you that we are an older community, particularly in our Roxboro sector, where we celebrated 100 years last year and that could be something to do with it as well,” said Beis.
There is no boil water advisory at this time.
