Deck fire in Saskatoon’s Forest Grove caused by careless smoking

SASKATOON – An investigator has determined that a deck fire in Saskatoon’s Forest Grove neighbourhood on Saturday was the result of the improper disposal of smoking materials. At 11:30 p.m. CT, fire crews were called to 333 Rossmo Road.

Firefighters arrived and reported smoke and flames showing from the rear of the house. The home had been evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.

The blaze was brought under control in three minutes and contained to the deck.

Damage is estimated at $1,000 and no one was injured.

Fire department officials are reminding smokers to ensure they dispose of smoking materials using proper containers.
