Police investigate after two MNA offices vandalized

MONTREAL – Two MNA riding offices were attacked by vandals on Thursday morning.

The first office, at Place Henri Bourassa, belonged to Quebec House Leader Jean-Marc Fournier.

The second was Minister of Finance Carlos Leitao’s office on des Sources Boulevard.

Computers were unplugged, papers spilled over the floor and stickers posted on walls, all supposedly in protest against Quebec‘s budget cutting measures.

Some stickers portrayed a toilet expressing negative sentiments towards the provincial government’s most recent negotiation offer of $1.7 billion.

Leitao told Global News he was particularly worried because the incident brought police to the building, causing a serious commotion right next to a daycare.

Global News spoke to one parent who said she was confused and scared to see cops surrounding the building where she brings her young child every morning.

Fournier’s office assistant was confronted by about thirty demonstrators.

On Friday, the House leader’s office was still a mess, with police investigating on site.

Police told Global News that the two incidents were connected and 22 people, aged 30-60 were identified.

Officers did not provide information about whether the individuals were affiliated with a union or any strike action.

No arrests were made and the investigation continues.

Leitao agreed people have the right to protest, but insisted intimidating staff and scaring children is not a legitimate negotiating tactic.
