Another major fire in Malakwa

UPDATE:  According to a company official, the fire was sparked by a welder doing work in a machine shop.

Sparks from the welding ignited the fire.

One loader was destroyed, along with all of the tools in the shop.

The contents were not insured.

The manager of the sawmill tells Global News that it shut down mid-summer, due to market conditions.

The Fire Department had to truck water to the fire, and remains on scene dousing hot spots.

MALAKWA–The community of Malakwa is dealing with a second major fire in 10 days.

Fire crews were called to the Elite Forest Products sawmill this afternoon.

A viewer of Global Okanagan sent us several images of the structure fire.
