CALGARY – Charges are pending after a routine traffic stop in the city’s northwest on Wednesday took a violent turn.
Officers had stopped a vehicle in the area of 34 Avenue and 5 Street N.W. at around 6 p.m. As they were conducting the traffic stop, police discovered the vehicle was stolen. It was at that point that the driver sped off, ramming into the police cruiser as it left the scene.
The officers weren’t injured but their vehicle suffered minor damage.
HAWKS Helicopter followed the vehicle until it was abandoned along Fonda Way S.E.
Four people were taken into custody.
