CALGARY – An Alberta RCMP officer suffered minor injuries when his police cruiser was rammed by a truck on Monday.

It happened in the central Alberta town of Stettler, just before midnight.

RCMP said officers responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the town’s industrial area found a black Ford truck that had been reported stolen.

Police turned on their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the driver, but said the vehicle sped off, driving past two marked RCMP cruisers that were at the scene.

“The driver of the truck accelerated, changed direction and drove directly at the second police vehicle, ramming the front right corner causing extensive damage,” said a Tuesday news release from RCMP.

RCMP said the truck continued to accelerate after the initial impact, pushing the police cruiser an additional three metres.
