TORONTO – Police have arrested and charged a man after a 60-year-old Toronto resident died from injuries sustained in an assault last month.
Police say Richard Chan, 50, and Charles Smithers, 60, were involved in an altercation at an apartment near Gerrard Street and Woodbine Avenue on Oct. 2.
Chan allegedly kicked Smithers in the back, breaking his ribs, according to police.
Two weeks later, police were called to the same apartment building and found Smithers dead. A post-mortem determined he died of injuries from the Oct. 2 assault.
Chan was arrested Tuesday and is now charged with manslaughter.
