REPENTIGNY, Que. – There was a heavy police presence at a funeral in Quebec for a man who investigators say was a long time member of the Hells Angels Montreal chapter.
Members of the RCMP, Quebec provincial police and at least five municipal police forces were in Repentigny, east of Montreal Saturday for the funeral of Lionel Deschamps, who died of cancer at the age of 63.
Deschamps was arrested in 2009 under a widespread police sweep against the biker gang.
He pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit murder last April, but was released because of time served.
Many of the mourners entering the funeral home wore jackets displaying the Hells Angels insignia.
Some of the police officers on hand outside the funeral home carried cameras to update their photo database of gang members.
One arrest warrant was executed and two vehicles were seized, but a provincial police spokesman said overall the event went smoothly.
