Alberta Progressive Conservatives promise $650 million for post-secondary schools

CALGARY – Alberta’s Progressive Conservatives are promising big bucks to fix up post-secondary institutions.

The Tories say if they win the April 23 election, about $650 million will be distributed to five schools over three years.

The money will allow go to NAIT, NorQuest College, Lethbridge College, the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University.

“We’re not just building buildings. We’re educating Albertans and we’re educating future workers in this economy. All of the five projects will greatly enhance each institution’s unique needs for learning,” Redford said Tuesday in Calgary.

The money allocated to NAIT will allow the Edmonton school to replace aging buildings. Edmonton-based NorQuest College plans to consolidate services to a single campus.

Lethbridge College will use the cash for its Trades and Technology Renewal and Innovation Project.

The University of Calgary plans to expand the Schulich School of Engineering and Mount Royal College is expanding its library and learning centre.

The province has invested more than $3 billion in post-secondary projects over the past six years.
