Police dog tracks down Prince Albert, Sask. armed robbery suspect

A man is facing charges after he was tracked down by a Prince Albert, Sask. police dog following an armed robbery. The robbery happened Tuesday morning at a business in the 2700-block of 2nd Avenue West.

Staff told officers two masked men, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun, entered the store just after 5:30 a.m. CT.

They made off with cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

A canine unit was brought in to track the suspects. Daxa chased one man to the Kinsmen Water Park where he climbed the fence to get into the park.

Police said Daxa engaged the man but he was able to break free and continued to flee.

The park was contained by officers and the man was arrested a short time later.

The 21-year-old Prince Albert man is facing robbery with a firearm and committing an indictable offence while masked charges. He appeared in Prince Albert provincial court Wednesday morning.

Police continue to search for the second suspect.
