MONTREAL – The city is giving contractors a chance to return any money they’ve overcharged in order to avoid lawsuits.
Officials said it sent out nearly 400 notices to companies and individuals as part of what Montreal calls a voluntary reimbursement program.
The city did not name names, but it said anyone who doesn’t comply will be taken to court.
Montreal said the legal notices are just a first step, since criminal investigations are currently underway.
The Charbonneau Commission uncovered an elaborate price-fixing scheme involving Greater Montreal contractors, bureaucrats and the Mafia.
