Saskatoon man charged with assaulting wife granted bail

SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man charged with aggravated assault has been granted bail. Michael Paul Welsh, 43, was released from custody after appearing in court on Tuesday.

He’s accused of assaulting his wife in September.

On Oct. 12, she was found dead in her Willowgrove home after police responded to a call of a woman needing medical assistance.

Welsh was in custody at the time of her death.

Following an autopsy, major crimes ruled out foul play in her death.

However, an investigation by the police department’s targeted enforcement unit is ongoing.

Details from Welsh’s court appearance on Tuesday are under a publication ban. He is due back in court on Nov. 5.
