Free to use, Instagram lets people apply various filters to the photos they snap with their mobile devices. Some of these make the photos look as if they’ve been taken in the 1970s or on Polaroid cameras.

Photo apps such as Instagram are gaining popularity as mobile phone cameras continue to improve.

Instagram said in a blog post Tuesday that the app for Google’s Android system will have the same look and feel as the application available on Apple Inc.’s iOS operating system.
