Alberta woman leads police on high speed chase in stolen truck

REGINA – Two people are facing charges after a stolen truck led police on a high speed chase in Shaunavon on Friday.

RCMP in Shaunavon first found a stolen SUV from Redcliff, Alberta that met description of a vehicle that was involved in an incident in Medicine Hat, Alberta earlier that day.

RCMP then discovered another truck was stolen from a home on First Ave west in Shaunavon.

RCMP located the stolen truck and arrested the male passenger without incident, but the female driver of the truck fled the scene, causing minor injuries to an officer.

The female driver fled north in the truck on Highway 37 to Gull Lake where she was located by other RCMP officers. The driver refused to pull over and drove erratically until she ruined the truck trying to go through a farmer’s field and was arrested.

Jessica Kelly, 20, of Strathmore, Alberta is charged with two counts of Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, Assaulting Police Officer, Flight From Police and Dangerous Driving.

Michael Warren Stoffels, 33, of Strathmore, Alberta was arrested under a Canada Wide Warrant for Extortion, Forcible Confinement, and Robbery from Calgary. Stoffels is also facing charges of Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, two counts of Obstruction and three Breaches to Recognizance.

Both Kelly and Stoffels made their first court appearance in Swift Current on Monday morning.
