Calgary officers injured in collision between SUV and police cruiser

CALGARY – Investigators are working to determine what led to a collision between a police cruiser and an SUV in northeast Calgary on Thursday.

Two members of the Calgary Police Service were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the crash, which happened in the intersection of Castleridge Boulevard and 64 Avenue N.E.

The driver of the SUV wasn’t seriously injured.

Investigators said the police cruiser had its lights flashing and sirens engaged as it travelled along Castleridge Boulevard.

“At this point, we haven’t laid any blame as far as yielding to the police vehicle or the police vehicle giving the other motorist a proper opportunity to get out of their way,” said Sgt. Joerg Gottschling on Thursday. “We will have some in-car video to look at to determine exactly what happened.”

The collision caused the temporarily closure of the intersection.
