2 pedestrians hit and killed by CTrains in 24 hours

CALGARY – A man was hit and killed by a CTrain in the city’s northeast on Thursday, marking the second time in less than 24 hours that a pedestrian was killed by a LRT.

EMS said it happened near the Rundle Station in the 2600 block of 36 Street N.E. at around 8:30 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A superintendent with Calgary Transit said information from Calgary police indicates the man may have become disoriented due to a medical condition.

There were no reports of any injuries aboard the train.

The fatality caused officials with Calgary Transit to temporarily halt CTrain service on Route 202 (Blue Line) past Rundle Station, before allowing trains to travel on a single track on the outbound side of the station.
