TORONTO — Police are asking the public for help in identifying two suspects in an attempted murder investigation, after a man was beaten with hammers in an apartment building elevator and robbed.
Police said the man was riding the elevator of his building in the Bathurst Street and Richmond Street West area on his way home on June 26 at about 4:30 a.m. ET.
When the doors opened, police said two men entered and began assaulting him with hammers, before spilling out into the hallway in what police described as a planned and targeted attack.
Police said the suspects then took the man’s keys and forced him into his apartment, where the assault continued and he was allegedly choked and threatened.
The men were eventually scared off by a neighbour, but police said they managed to leave with a few items belonging to the man.
The victim sustained serious injuries and is still recovering, while police said they have been investigating since the incident occurred.
Investigators have released security camera footage of the incident in hopes of identifying the two suspects with help from the public.
