CALGARY – The University of Calgary is trying to get more young voters to cast a ballot this year. It’s part of the ‘Get Out the Vote’ campaign.
A pledge drive asks students to fill out a form committing to vote.
Those students are then followed up with, to ensure they come through on their promise to cast a ballot.
So far, 8000 students can expect to receive a phone call or text reminding them to vote and walking them through the voting process.

Romy Garrido, the Students Union VP External for the U of C says she believes students are politically engaged with one third of U of C and have students already made the pledge to vote.
“Times are changing, there’s this myth that students are apathetic and that students don’t vote,” Garrido said.
“We saw in the Alberta election that was a lie. Students and young people made it to the ballot box. I think we are noticing our voices are being heard.”
For the first time, advance polling stations were held on campus and 42,000 students voted at these polls across the country.
A viewing party is being held on Monday at the campus bar. For more information, visit getoutthevote.ca
