RCMP charge 2 men in string of arsons in Airdrie area

An arson investigation into a string of suspicious fires in the Airdrie, Alta. area has doubled in size. Global News

CALGARY – Two men have been charged in relation to several arson fires that were set on Monday in Airdrie, Alta. The arrests come in the midst of an ongoing investigation into 20 blazes that have been set since Oct. 1.

Calgarian Nickolas Maschke, 20, and Airdrie native Trevor Brown, 20, were each charged with two counts of arson and break and enter. Both were released from custody and are set to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Oct. 22.

RCMP said they received a tip about two suspicious men seen near a dumpster fire in downtown Airdrie, at the 2400 block of Ravenswood View S.E.

If anyone has information on any other arsons in the Airdrie area since Oct. 1, police ask you to call your local RCMP detachment or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimestoppers.ab.ca.

Airdrie is located about 30 km north of Calgary.
