Couple threatening with machete-like weapon arrested in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – Police say a crime spree has ended with the arrest of two suspects in Saskatoon Saturday evening. Officers were chasing a couple attempting to rob multiple people while driving around on the east side of the city.

In all four incidents, pedestrians were able to provide helpful vehicle descriptions.

The first call came in at 4 p.m. CT informing police that two pedestrians had been walking in the Greystone Heights neighborhood when a vehicle drove up. One of the vehicle occupants brandished a knife and demanded money.  They refused and the vehicle left.

At around 6:40 p.m. CT, police received another report of a man and woman in a vehicle in the 2200-block of Munroe Avenue.  This time, the couple had what was described as a machete and were demanding money and threatening people.

The next call at 6:50 p.m. CT described occupants in a vehicle threatening people in the 3000-block of Arlington Avenue.

Lastly, police received a report of a street robbery in the 1500-block of 8th Street East just before 7 p.m. CT. A young woman was assaulted and was robbed of her backpack and longboard.

A few moments later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle on Wilson Crescent and arrested an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman.

A large machete-type weapon was found in the vehicle along with stolen property. Police say some stolen items are linked to a residential break and enter was that reported in the Rosewood neighborhood earlier that evening.

Numerous charges are expected to be laid including robbery, possession of weapons, making threats and possession of stolen property.

The investigation is ongoing.
