WINNIPEG – The Manitoba government says it is donating $150 million toward the University of Manitoba’s Front and Centre Campaign.

Premier Greg Selinger was on hand at the university’s Engineering and Information Technology Centre on Friday to make the announcement in front of cheering students, staff and faculty.

Selinger says the government knows that students want to have access to the best programming and opportunities they can.

He says that’s why they’re focusing their investments in key priorities areas like innovation, inclusion and teaching excellence.

The Front and Centre campaign is targeting several priorities at the university including new classrooms, improving student support and Indigenous studies.

The university has so far raised more than $365 million, bringing them closer to their goal of $500 million.

“This support from the government of Manitoba is a visionary investment in the future of this province,” said Dr. David Barnard, the university’s president.

“This strategic funding will benefit all Manitobans and those in the generations to come, educating a new generation of people who will help transform our community.”
