Texas man tries to flee in stolen car while pregnant woman clings to hood

Amateur video out of Houston, Texas shows the shocking moment a pregnant woman clings to the hood of her car in a desperate attempt to prevent it from being stolen by her ex-boyfriend.

Houston police Department John Cannon tells Global News that the incident occurred this past Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. near I-45.

Jessica Alvarado, 31, told police that her ex-boyfriend Anthony Adan Escobedo, 31, entered the motel room she was staying at and took the keys to a 2015 Kia Sorrento she says was loaned to her by a friend.

After she noticed her car was missing, Alvarado says she tracked it down to a Shell gas station near the motel.

At this point, police say Escobedo had a female passenger in the car with him, and Alvarado demanded they get out of the car.

When they refused, police say Alvarado jumped onto the hood of the car. Amateur footage shot by other motorists shows what happened next, as Alvarado clings tenaciously to the car’s hood even as it begins to move.

“[Alvarez] jumped onto the hood, grabbed onto the windshield wipers, and demanded they get out” Cannon said.

“[Escobedo] ignored those demands, and started driving out of the parking lot onto the freeway.”

According to witnesses, the car reached a speed of 48 kilometres an hour before Alvarez fell off. Police say she was assisted by nearby motorists, who also contacted police.

Alvarez was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where doctors learned she was 32 weeks pregnant. She says Escobedo is the father of her baby.

Neither Alvarez nor her unborn child were injured besides some scrapes and bruises on her hands and feet.

Houston Police arrested Escobedo a short time later at a nearby apartment complex. He faces a charge of misdemeanor assault of a family member.
