Nearly $1 million was raised in Vancouver for the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday.
In total, $942,676 was raised in Vancouver, and more than 5,400 people ran in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Remarkable energy, remarkable enthusiasm. We’re so thrilled to have so many people out with us today,” says Bernice Scholten, executive director of the foundation.
One of the teams running was supporting Carla Zarifeh, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in December. They raised over $15,000.
“I did explain the whole thing to my daughter, she knows what went on,” said Zarifeh.
“She asked me, ‘Mom, am I going to have a bump on my breast that’s going to be bad?’ I said I hope not, but I’m hoping by then they’ll have raised them oney and have research to hopefully find a cure, so you don’t have to go through what I went through.”
In total, an estimated $21.5 million was raised at rallies across the country.
