Man found badly injured in Highland Park dies in hospital

CALGARY – The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man in the community of Highland Park.

Officers were called to the 4200 block of Centre Street N.W. at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday by a witness who spotted a man covered in blood.

When they arrived, EMS say they found a man in his 40s suffering from “traumatic injuries believed to be from a stabbing.” He was transported to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition where he later died.

Although police will only say the death is considered “suspicious,” sources tell Global News it is a homicide.

Police said during a morning news conference on Wednesday that one person was in the home when they arrived at the scene.

“There was a person found in the residence who we’re treating as a witness,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Jepson. “We have nobody in custody that we believe [is] responsible for this incident.”

Police said they had spoken with three witnesses in total.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Calgary police are also investigating the death of a man whose lifeless body was found in the city’s southeast at around 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Investigators say there is no indication that the deaths are related.
