SAINT-JÉRÔME, Que. – The ex-wife of a former Quebec doctor who is charged with murdering their children said she never thought he could kill them.
Isabelle Gaston is on the stand at Guy Turcotte’s first-degree murder trial.
Guy Turcotte, a former cardiologist, is accused of killing their two children.

He admitted on Thursday to causing the deaths of Olivier 5, and Anne-Sophie, 3.
Gaston gave her version of what happened leading up to the murders in Piedmont, north of Montreal, in February 2009.
On more than one occasion, Gaston told the jury under cross-examination by his lawyer she never thought he could hurt them.
She described their marriage as toxic but also noted that Turcotte was not a bad father.

The 12 jurors have been warned that they would hear and see difficult evidence in the case.

During week one, a first responder, a police officer and an investigator testified; jurors also saw evidence including two knives and photographs.
