SASKATOON – Some members of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan (MNS) met this weekend to try and resolve the organization’s internal fighting. The meeting was called by some area directors frustrated by the lack of action.

The MNS has not held a general assembly for several years because of in-fighting. Much of their funding has been frozen until the internal problems are resolved.

Ideas this weekend included setting up a Metis court to resolve differences, and there was a resolution calling for a general assembly on the weekend of Nov. 13.

Still, many people left the meeting this weekend feeling there was a lot of work still to be done.

“My opinion, my personal opinion, is that everyone of them, from the president, the executive all the way down to the PMC should be submitting resignations,” said Shirley Isbister.

“We could have a MNLA and the people could have a voice.”

Earlier this month, a Saskatchewan judge found that MNS president Robert Doucette failed to prove that other members of the organization ignored a court order to call a Metis Legislative Assembly.
