Contemporary art displays take over downtown Edmonton for Nuit Blanche

EDMONTON — It’s a contemporary art festival that was first celebrated in Paris in 2002 and on Saturday night it took over Edmonton for the first time.

Nuit Blanche, a free, overnight art event, was held from 7 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. It featured 31 installations from local and international artists, which were spread out through the downtown core. Most of the installations were within a five-minute walk of Churchill Square.

The Edmonton Arts Council commissioned a special transitory public art program for the High Level Bridge lights. The bridge was lit up for the entire Nuit Blanche event.

Other art installations included the “Dance of the Cranes presented by Ice District,” which some Edmontonians got a sneak peek of last weekend.
