Halifax police investigate possible hate crime in Dartmouth

HALIFAX – Halifax police are investigating a possible hate crime, where racist graffiti was spray painted on a vehicle in Dartmouth.

At 9:15 Thursday night, Halifax Regional Police received a complaint that someone had witnessed a man smashing out the windows of a vehicle parked in a driveway of a residence on Lahey Road.

The suspect then ran to a vehicle that was waiting on Victoria Road, and fled the scene.

When police arrived they say the windows and headlights of the vehicle had been smashed, tires slashed, and a racist symbol spray painted on the hood of the vehicle.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect, who is described as a white man, 19 or 20 years old with a skinny build. He was reported to be wearing a red baseball cap, blue short-sleeve shirt and blue baggy denim shorts.

There is no description of the vehicle available.

Investigators say it’s possible that hate could have motivated the crime.
