EDMONTON — Jetting off for a Seahawks game will soon be easier, thanks to a new Delta flight being launched at the Edmonton International Airport.

The airline and airport announced Thursday a new daily, nonstop flight between EIA and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, beginning December 15, 2015.

The flight will leave Edmonton at 9 a.m. and arrive in Seattle at 9:55 a.m. Return flights will take off from Seattle at 7:55 p.m. and arrive in Edmonton at 10:50 p.m.

The flight will be run by Delta Connection, the airline’s regional division for short and medium-haul routes, and operated on a Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft like the one pictured below.

The only other airline offering nonstop service from EIA to Seattle is Alaska Airlines. WestJet, Air Canada and United all offer flights to Seattle, but include stops in either Calgary, Vancouver, or in United’s case, San Francisco.

According to Delta Air Lines, SeaTac is the United States fastest-growing airport — much like the Edmonton International is the fastest growing major airport in Canada.

“Seattle and Edmonton are both thriving business centres, wonderful leisure destinations and avid sports towns, so this new air service is excellent news for both cities,” said Tom Ruth, president and CEO of EIA.

Delta began a big expansion in Seattle two years ago, when it began building a hub there.

“From Anchorage to San Diego, our new service will provide convenient access to more than 40 destinations from our Seattle hub in addition to the more than 120 destinations served through our existing Minneapolis service,” said Andy Renner, Delta Air Lines director of domestic network planning.

It’s expected the new Seattle flight will attract both business travel and vacationers.

“Seattle is a great destination, and offers good connections into Asia as well as into the Pacific Northwest. For Seattle, Edmonton offers a strong network of connections across Canada and into Europe,” added Ruth.

Delta also offers flights from EIA to Minneapolis-St. Paul.
