UPDATE: United Way surpassed its goal of raising $15,000 by two dollars. A total of $15,002 was raised, thanks to generous sponsors and guests of the drive thru.

PENTICTON — It was bumper to bumper traffic at the fourth annual United Way Kickoff Drive Thru at the Penticton Lakeside Resort Thursday morning.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Traffic was lined up on Main Street and Lakeshore Drive as drivers patiently waited to grab their hot breakfasts and coffees.

Organizers anticipate serving 800 people and raise $15,000, which will be used to help support the local front-line agencies in the region.

“This is a great fundraiser for the south Okanagan community. The United Way is present in the community and every dollar raised here, stays here. So the community support is just unbelievable,” says Shelley Gilmore, the Executive Director of the United Way Central and South Okanagan/Similkameen.
