Australian model with Down syndrome walks the runway at NY Fashion Week

An 18-year-old Australian woman with Down syndrome lived every model’s dream of walking down the runway at this year’s New York Fashion Week.

Madeline Stuart knew she wanted to be a model after attending a fashion show with her mother, Roseanne Stuart, a few years ago. Madeline’s mother said her daughter wanted to model right then and there.

“She told me she wanted to get up on the stage, she wanted to get up right then,” Roseanne told CBS.

Madeline went to a few photo shoots to begin her modelling career and her pictures blew up instantly on social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“Madeline’s this shining light that shows people that nothing is impossible,” Roseanne told CBS.

“This is about inclusion. This is about discrimination… It’s about letting people out there with intellectual disabilities or anyone who looks a little bit different feel included in life,” she added.

There were a few bumps along on the way, with Madeline getting stage fright before her big moment. But that didn’t stop the young model from experiencing a moment only celebrated by few.

Madeline walked the runway.

And she walked it to the beat of a cheering crowd.

Living her dream at one of the biggest events in any model’s career.
